Offense-Defense AA Bowl Chat: Carlos Dunlap

[rl]Five-star defensive end Carlos Dunlap stopped by for a chat with Rivals.com users in the recruiting message board Wednesday afternoon live from the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The following is a transcript of the chat:

Hey Carlos, just wanted to say I've played against you a couple of times in my HS career and I've never seen anything like you before. Congratulations on your achievements.

Who are your best friends that you've made through this recruiting process so far? Also, are you and Quinn still planning on attending the same school?

Carlos Dunlap: Yes, me and Robert Quinn have talked about attending the same school. Quintin Richardson, Brian Maddox, Stephen Garcia, Donald Langley, Cliff Matthews, Cory Boyd, Eric Norwood and Sidney Rice.

Are any other schools besides South Carolina really in contention for your commitment?

Carlos Dunlap: Yes. All the schools that have offered me.

What is your true height and weight? Also, what is your fastest forty time?

Carlos Dunlap: 6-7, 265 4.5 on the track.

Carlos, First off good luck in the game this week. Which coach or coaches do you have the closest relationship with?

Carlos Dunlap: All of the coaches are very good coaches. Mostly, I've connected with my position coach here Chris Davis from Hoover High and my head coach from Fort Dorchester, Steve LaPrad and Ian Rafferty, the defensive coordinator and defensive end coach at Fort Dorchester.

When it comes down to it, how much does location play into your decision process? And do you ever feel any pressure to stay home and play for the home state school? Coming from a state that alot of the population is extremely loyal. Do you feel a sense that you should stay and help turn South Carolina into the championship caliber team that it has the possibility of becoming.

Also, if you could go and pick one school to visit officialy just for fun who might not have recruited you who would you like to visit for free?

Carlos Dunlap: A lot of my local fans from my area are talking about coming to most of my games, so I am trying to stay within 6-7 hours.

A good football school who has history. Maybe USC or Notre Dame or somewhere like that.

How many text messages do you get from coaches on an average day? What is the most outrageous thing a coach has told you during the recruiting process?

Carlos Dunlap: I get 6-7 text messages per day.

I watched your films, and they are easily the most impressive I have seen for a DE in HS. Good luck with the school that you choose. I will definitely be rooting for you regardless of where you go. My question is two part. How close are you to qualifying, and what would it take for Florida to sway you from choosing South Carolina?

Carlos Dunlap: Academically, everyone says I am going to qualify. I'm trying to go wherever I feel at home, so if Florida makes me feel at home, that's where I will go.

Three questions...

(1) Where do you see your eventual playing weight in 3-4 years. Seems like your frame has room for more.

(2) What do you believe is your best attribute as pass rushing DE?

(3) Which color combos do you like better: Orange/Blue or Garnet/Black?

Carlos Dunlap: I think I will weigh 280 at the most and hopefully will be running a 4.4 or maintaining my 4.5. Making plays and putting pressure on the quarterback and creating bad throws. Both are good color combinations.

What player college or pro, did you idolize growing up?

Carlos Dunlap: Julius Peppers, Michael Jordan and Dwight Freeney.
