Cass Tech LB hearing from MSU
The Michigan State Spartans already have 1 commitment from Detroit Cass Tech for the class of 2014 in linebacker Deon Drake, but he is not the only Technician on the radar. SpartanMag.com caught up with fellow linebacker William White and got the latest details on his recruitment.
Detroit Cass Tech has won back-to-back Division 1 State Titles in the state of Michigan. Based on the looks of it is very possible that they could three-peat. The Cass tech roster is loaded with high-level prospects and linebacker William White is one of the players that will be heading to a BCS college after high school. We spoke with White about his recruitment and what schools are actively recruiting him.
"Things are going well, White said. Tight now I have offers from Indiana and Toledo and I am hearing from a lot of other schools. Maryland is showing a lot of interest and I have talked with Michigan State as well."
With a commitment from Deon Drake and Byron Bullough the Spartans already have a pair of outstanding linebackers in the fold. Based on scholarship numbers the staff will likely take 3 or 4 linebackers for this class so you can expect they will be very selective about who they pursue. White is a player the staff will certainly be keeping a close eye on this spring. We talked with White about his contact with the Spartans and his spring plans.
"I have talked with Coach Samuel and my thoughts on Michigan State are good, White said. Michigan State is a good school football wise and academically. I will be attending the Best of the Midwest Camp later this month."
Cass Tech players have been very active on the camp and combine scene and that has led to a lot of positive exposure. Michigan State offered Cass Etch product Dennis Finley after seeing him at the Sound Mind-Sound Body Camp. White will certainly be at that camp as well as several others that will take place in the coming months.
As far as his off-season training, White indicated that he is working hard and he is going into the process with a bit of a chip on his shoulder.
"I am actually 6-foot-2, 222 now (up from 6'1, 215), White said. " I think some people did not see how good I did this past year and I am using that as my motivation to be ranked higher than I currently am."
On a team like Cass Tech a player like White, who is known as being very efficient, can sometimes get overlooked. By attending camps and combines, White wants to show his ability and in the process hopefully increase his scholarship options. We asked White if he has a timetable for a decision and what he is looking for in a future destination.
"I hope to visit a lot of schools this summer, White indicated. The main thing to me is that I want a school that I know is being honest and who wants me the most; that is what it will eventually come down to."
One of the positives in White's recruitment is the level of competition that he gets to go against by playing for Cass Tech. With games against Birmingham Brother Rice, Detroit Catholic Central and Detroit Martin Luther King there is no shortage of quality competition to gauge his ability. Playing against that type of competition is why the Technicians are such a sought after program to be a part of.
SpartanMag.com will be sure to follow the recruitment of White in the coming weeks. We will be attending the Best of the Midwest Combine later this month and will be sure to scout White and several other top Spartan targets for the class of 2014.
